by Guest Author on February 4, 2012

There has been a huge growth in online marketing especially since we have seen the appearance of social media marketing (namely, Facebook marketing), which has led to a maturation of values and strategies with web-based communications. This maturation is timely, and should have been earlier. We are learning to really value those consumer relationships, and we are learning that we need to do more than just try and ram our message down the throat of our potential customers.

Learning From Online Marketing

If you are using print marketing tools to reach your customers with your small business, there is a lot you can learn from what has become commonplace with Internet-based communications.

  • Importance of content. A lot of Internet marketing has grown out of article writing and short-video production. The best way to show potential customers your value is to demonstrate it. There is no reason why we cannot do the same with print media and printing services. You could produce your own simple newsletter, or you could contribute articles to local newspapers and magazines. All media, online or not, is looking for good content. People will get to know you, and they will get to know your business.
  • Marketing that does more than market. There will always be a place for websites, and moreover, better websites are doing more work for us. You only have to look at online printing companies. They are using online applications to remove the need for basic designers and save a lot of time for their customers. We can use our printed materials to do work for us to. We can use incentives to research our region while we market. This way we can gather more information on a region, while we let everyone know we are. Why not use pre-paid postage items to get a response from everyone while you let them know you have a service to offer? We can also offer incentives to recommend – another strategy used online.
  • Regularity and relationship building. Facebook invented a website that just makes people want to go back. They want to go back so much they are using it all day. This has been very important for online communications development. The same is necessary with print related materials. Gifts that your customers and potential customers can use everyday are some of the best print-related materials you can produce. A tea or coffee cup that is used everyday in the office is still one of the best, and most cost effective marketing tools that exist today. People start to love their mug, and they associate your brand with it. When they need your type of services, they will undoubtedly contact you. Others in the office will probably do the same because they see your brand and contact details everyday.

Marketing with the Internet has grown to include more emphasis on relationship building and targeting. Spamming out thousands of messages to those who don’t know you, don’t want them or are just not interested can actually damage your business. Showing you have the ability and building your relationships and association with potential customers, even at much lower numbers, has been proven to work. Those people will recommend you to others.
